Omaha has a beach...

Well not Omaha the state... But France has a beach in Normandy that was given the code name Omaha...

Unfortunately I was not able to arrive before the cemetery closed at 1700.

Above is a monument on the beach.

Above is a monument just at the edge of the beach.

Some of the German concrete bunkers are still present here. The trenches are filled in, but you can still see the zig-zag pattern where they used to exist. The view from the bunker is of a vast beach, and it is impossible to really understand what it must have looked like on that historical day...

Above is one of the few buildings that survived the war.
