I arrived in Sydney, Australia for the first time this morning. I came from Doha, Qatar - and connected in Sri Lanka and Singapore. So yes, at the end of the trip I will have flown completely around the world....
Once I arrived I bought an Opal card for the metro. Since Sydney Airport charges an unreasonable fee for using the metro and I was traveling with a friend I arranged for a private transfer to the hotel since it wouldn't be much more cost.
Once at the hotel - Radisson Hotel at 72 Liverpool St. - we left our luggage and continued to explore. We went up the pylon on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was much cheaper than climbing the bridge and they allow you to take pictures. They also had a small museum with information about the bridge.
Below picture is of the Syndey Harbour Bridge. You can see the large concrete pylon on each side of the bridge. I went up the one on the left.

After the pylon we wandered around the Rocks district and the Royal Botanical Gardens.
In the evening we purchased a tour of the Sydney Opera House for the morning (boarding the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas in the afternoon on our way to New Zealand). My friend was tired, so I went on my own back to the Circular Quay area to take pictures of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge at night with my camera and tripod. I had the advantage of flying business class, so I was able to rest on the airplanes.
